Outdoor Disco - Pt. 2

GOLD SCHOOL

In the second installment of my sequin-tastic shoot with Jamison, I'm layering some of my favorite gold and black party pieces for a little late-night cowgirl vibe. The obvious show steeler is a vintage gold and black sequined jacket that I purchased at an adorable and fantastic vintage shop in Ithaca, NY, called Petrune. When I was in school there I used to troll the racks on a regular basis for a little nostalgic oomph in my outfits. Check them out at petrune.com  if you dig the charming and unique :) 

The LBD underneath is also one of my favorite pieces - in black velvet with a bustier bodice, it's sexy on its own and great for layering. From American Apparel, the brand that never fails to disappoint with quality basics. Agua Sandia

Casual weekend brunch mixing vintage pieces with updated accessories. Yellow cropped tee, high-waisted magenta shorts, + large yellow bangle - all vintage, nude shoulder bag - Kate Landry, strappy black platform wedges - Aldo, AND last but not least, my latest obsession in eyewear and the piece that really ties the outfit together - irresistibly aloof rounded cat eye shades from Cheap Monday. Versatile and cool, these sweet new sunnies in basic black are quickly becoming a favorite for fall ;) Polish off the outfit in statement jewelry (because you feel like  a room without a roof) and a bold belt in theme colors to create a whimsical through-line. Add edge to basic looks by picking pieces in novelty shapes, sizes, and textures - like this oversized grey tee paired with a chunky metallic knit. Create continuity and pull the outfit together by choosing accessories in a contrasting accent color, in this case black. Still need some extra oomph? Adding a bold lip color a la Gwen Steffani will put the polish on any look.

My personal tip - try the men's section! When I get bored with soft lines and feminine curves, I ditch the ladies and go for guys ;) Take a cue from Courtney Love and borrow your boyfriend's biggest tees and coziest flannels to look like a rockstar without even trying.

New-wave tribal meets early-90s casual today for lazy shopping. This dress is one of my favorite easy pieces for summer: drop sleeves and an all-over loose fit make for a breezy day and pair perfectly with sexy skivvies peaking out the sides.

Amp up the nostalgia-factor with glittery neon jellies and a bright monochrome bag in a contrasting color. I picked up this buttery turquoise cross-body in Paris circa 2011 from duo designers Pampa & Pop and it has yet to be de-throned as my go-to, all-purpose bag. Perfect for the ethical fashionista, Pampa & Pop is a fair trade company that makes funky, colorful leathers and promotes human rights and a more ethical fashion industry. They use mostly raw materials from Argentina, plus organic cotton, biodegradable ink, and other goodies. Activism meets Narcissism ;) See? You can have your cake and eat it too.

UO scoopneck maxi dress with vintage leopard print skinny belt and Topshop clutch. 60's style smokey-cat-eye created from the Urban Decay Naked Palette 2 + plum blush (Tarte) and sheer pale pink lips. Add ultra-tousled, wind-blown hair and pointy-toed neutral flats for a touch of casual.
